Bass clef
Bass clef notes: reading low notes
Bass clef is often used for piano left hand and low instruments. Its main reference point is F, the line placed between the two dots of the clef.
Bass clef line notes
Bass clef lines do not have the same names as treble clef lines. The clef changes the map of the staff.
GBDFA
- The fourth line is F: it sits between the two dots of the clef.
- This F line is the most reliable starting point.
- Low notes become easier when you read by distance from that F.
Bass clef space notes
The spaces are read from bottom to top. Together with the lines, they complete the staff.
ACEG
- On piano, these notes often appear in left-hand accompaniment.
- Reading always alternates line, space, line, space.
- Comparing treble and bass clef helps explain why the same position has a different name.
