Harmonica Notes
C chromatic harmonica notes: 12-hole layout
A C chromatic harmonica can play every chromatic note with the slide button. This chart shows the main notes for a 12-hole model in solo tuning.
The basic pattern
Solo tuning is beginner-friendly because the same logic repeats across several octaves. The first four holes form one complete block, then the block starts again higher.
Blow: C E G CDraw: D F A BSlide: note + 1 semitone
- Holes 1 to 4 form the first block.
- Holes 5 to 8 repeat the pattern one octave higher.
- Holes 9 to 12 repeat it again in the upper range.
- The slide turns each note into its chromatic neighbor.

Why some notes repeat
Some notes can be found in more than one place. That is useful: it lets the player choose a more comfortable breath pattern, prepare a phrase or avoid running out of air.
- The same note may exist with or without slide depending on the hole.
- The hole choice changes breathing comfort and phrasing.
- Beginners should learn one simple route before using alternate positions.
